Tree meeting brings out city officials

City officials including City Attorney Rick Doyle and San Jose Police Chief Rob Davis, above, attended a meeting in Willow Glen to discuss three 60-year-old trees that were cut down without a permit. Most of the more than 75 people attending were from Willow Glen and the Rose Garden areas; others came from various neighborhoods throughout the city. While many attending were angry, especially because the police did not stop the older trees from being cut down, it appears some good may come out of the meeting. Davis, who noted that the same problem happened within the last couple of years in Almaden, and Doyle suggested that the city may require developers and tree cutters to carry permits on the job. If they don’t have a permit, they will not be allowed to work on the property. City Council members are expected to discuss this proposal and other possible solutions to the problem at the regular council meeting on Feb. 6.
