San Jose responds to housing needs in Strong Neighborhood
Area
Housing Improvements in the Hoffman/Via Monte Neighborhood help
residents achieve top 10 goal
Exterior housing improvements have been identified as one of the
top ten priorities of the Hoffman/Via Monte Strong Neighborhood
Area. San Jose Vice Mayor Pat Dando joined Neighborhood Advisory
Committee members recently to kick-off a series of housing improvement
projects in their neighborhood. Construction workers were on-site
to perform exterior improvements on four demonstration projects
selected by the Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC).
Hoffman/Via Monte is the first Strong Neighborhood Initiative area
to focus on tenant improvements and rehabilitation of rental housing.
As a requirement of the program, at least 50% of the tenants living
in the selected Hoffman/Via Monte fourplexes are low-income residents.
In Santa Clara County, a family of four is considered low-income
when the household earns less than $82,100.
“San Jose wants all residents to take pride in the place
they call home,” said San Jose Vice Mayor Pat Dando. “By
investing in our communities, we are helping low-income tenants
to realize a safe, beautiful and enriching neighborhood.”
