City of San Jose holiday closures
San Jose City Hall will be closed for the holidays beginning Monday, Dec. 25 and will reopen Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007.
Police and Fire departments, along with other critical city services, will continue unaffected by the closure.
Customer Contact Center: The City's Customer Contact Center will be closed on the city-observed holidays. Dec. 27 – 29, the Center will be fully staffed during regular business hours, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. After hours, weekends and holidays, general information is available to callers and requests requiring follow-up will be routed to the proper department and handled during business hours.
Library Schedule: All city libraries will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 26. Libraries will resume regular hours on Dec. 27. For the New Year's holiday, San Jose libraries will be closed Dec. 31, 2006 and Jan.1, 2007. King Library will be open on Jan. 2 and all branch libraries will resume regular schedules beginning Jan. 3.
Community Service Centers: Certain recreational and cultural events will be held as scheduled. In addition, most community centers will continue to operate during the closure with reduced hours. Residents should check with their local community center for hours of operation during the holidays.
Garbage and Recycling Delayed One Day: All collections will occur one day later than usual between Monday, Dec. 25, and Saturday, Jan. 6, to allow drivers and sorters to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s with their families. For example, Monday collections will occur on Tuesday and Friday collections will occur on Saturday. Trucks may also arrive much later than usual due to the increased volume of materials during the holidays. However, if it appears that collection has occurred elsewhere on your street and your carts were missed, call your hauler. Norcal is at (408) 576-0057 and GreenTeam is at (408) 283-8500. If you’re not sure of your hauler, check the first two letters of the serial number stamped on the side of your recycling cart: NC is Norcal, GT is GreenTeam.
Yard Trimmings and Christmas Trees: Collection of yard trimmings also will be delayed one day due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. After the holidays, natural and flocked trees will be collected at curbside from Dec. 26 to Feb. 2 on the same day as your garbage, recycling and yard trimmings. You DO NOT need to attach an “Extra Garbage” sticker, but you do need to remove tinsel, decorations and the tree stand. Cut trees into 5-foot lengths and place them in the street about a foot from the curb.
Street sweeping: Streets will not be swept on Christmas or New Year’s days. Sweeping will occur one day later throughout the rest of the week including on Saturday. To ensure cleaner streets and less pollution in local creeks, remember to move your vehicles off the street on your scheduled sweep day.
Garbage Bills or New Accounts: If you have billing questions or need to transfer or begin a new garbage service account, call the City’s Customer Contact Center at (408) 535-3500. During the holidays, the Call Center will be open from 8a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday (it will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s and the Tuesday following each of those days). A drop box located at the Sixth and Santa Clara Street entrance of City Hall is available for bill payment deposits during the closure.
