District 10 City Councilmember-elect Nancy Pyle held a private swearing-in ceremony on Dec. 8 in the Clerk’s Office at San Jose City Hall.

Nancy Pyle takes oath in the Clerk’s Office at San Jose City Hall last Wednesday.

In attendance were family and friends alongside a joyful group of Pyle supporters. Current City Council members Cindy Chavez, Judy Chirco and Forrest Williams appeared with Pyle to celebrate her exciting and—at times—tumultuous successful campaign.

“Nobody thought we’d do it,” said Pyle. “But, like Seabiscuit, we won—and did so by a full nose,” she beamed, pumping an arm to the sky.

“I’m delighted to be in a position to work closely with the residents of District 10 and am eager to be in [office].”

“There’s no downtime between now and when she takes office,” assured Pyle’s gritty campaign manager Ana Maria Rosato who was recently named Pyle’s chief of staff. “The transition team is actively involved in shifting her thinking from campaign focus to official duties.”

As for the private ceremony, “this is pretty traditional,” said Rosato. A public ceremony is scheduled to take place sometime in early January.

Until then Pyle will occupy herself completing her appointments for staff, touring the district and meeting with community members.

Pyle recently met with incumbent District 10 City Councilmember and Vice Mayor Pat Dando, who was very gracious going over the projects pending in the district, according to Rosato.

“There’s a lot of love in this room,” said Pyle at one point during the ceremony Wednesday. “It’s a miracle we got here and I can’t wait to begin.”
