Nearby homeowner says bring on those Friday night games

Editor,
As a very affected homeowner—two houses from the 50-yard line—I support the idea for lights for Leland activities in the Pat Tillman Stadium. It will be great for our kids and community. I can handle a little traffic and noise. I liked the fact the Principal Bob Sutterlund addressed major issues upfront regarding which and how many events will be played at night at Leland.

I hope the homeowners in the most affected areas of Via Valiente, Tunbridge, Hurlstone, Burnside and maybe Worthington streets have their opinions carry the most weight in the decision. Actually, I believe Leland can do what ever they want, but they are showing concern for neighbors.

Leland High School's ‘Our Town’ production is a huge hit with reader

Editor,
On Thursday night, Nov. 16, my daughter and I were treated to a wonderful performance of Thornton Wilder's classic play "Our Town," put on by the Leland High School drama club. This endearing and bittersweet play reminds us of all the blessings we have—home, family, health, life, friends, opportunity and sweet memories. I'm so pleased that Leland High School, under the direction of Steve Dini, chose to produce a play of redeeming value.

The drama students clearly worked hard to bring a stellar performance to the stage. Mike Nelson was charming and funny as George, and Jennifer Spindler took me back to lovely moonlit nights and the scent of heliotrope in the garden. Tears fell in the third act when she visited the family of her youth, and helped us all to remember how important it is to appreciate our time here with family and friends. All the students are to be commended for their effort and dedication to this drama club production.

I am looking forward to seeing more plays and musicals at Leland High School, and I encourage Leland students, parents and the community to come out and support your Leland High School drama club.
