Fathers, daughters shake their groove thing at recent Girl
Scout dance
By Kim Stafford, program support manager, Almaden Valley Girl Scouts
Special to the Times
More than 500 dancers rocked the night away at the Almaden Valley
Girl Scouts’ annual Father/Daughter Dance Nov. 14 at Holy
Spirit Church in San Jose.
The couples were captivated by the music of D.J. Randy Lira from
5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Photos were taken of fathers with their daughters
while they also enjoyed pizza, snacks, cookies, and drinks. Glow
necklaces were a big hit as well as fabulous door prizes!
This event was planned and run entirely by the Older Girl Committee,
which consists of girls in grades six through 12, assisted by their
capable leaders. Troop 414 collected five bins of toiletry items
for a service project, which will be packaged and distributed in
January. After the dance, the committee celebrated with miniature
golf at Golfland and desserts at Coco's on Blossom Hill. Proceeds
from the dance, after expenses, are to go into the Older Girl Fund
for future fun events for these girls.
Almaden Valley Girl Scouts serve more than 600 girls in the area
ranging from kindergarten through senior year in high school. For
more information on joining or volunteering for Girl Scouts, contact
the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County at 287-4170.
