Psychic attracts large crowd during book signing at Almaden Costco

Psychic Sylvia Browne was swarmed with readers while making a guest appearance to promote her new book, “Visits from the Afterlife,” at the crowded Costco in Almaden Fashion Plaza last weekend.

Amidst Costco’s careening shopping carts full of bread, soap and children, Browne’s five assistants created an oasis for the world-renowned clairvoyant. Setting the stage were three black clothed tables, blue jacketed stacks of the book on either side, a large ornate silver punch bowl iced for juice and water bottles, and covered by a white canopy. In the center sat Browne, draped in earthy colors and blonde flowing hair—more attractive than her photos and many TV appearances convey.

Her brown eyes were luminous as she greeted each person with a warm smile as the 50-deep line of excited fans circled the aisle of the megastore.

“I wonder why there are so many women? Is it because they’re more sensitive?” asked one man who had read a previous book, “Past Lives, Future Healing,” also by Browne. Women outnumbered men 10 to one. And they were willing to go the distance to meet the psychic. One woman volunteered that she made a special trip from Monterey just to see Sylvia.

“Sylvia’s quite a personality,” Eric Von Delden, Costco assistant manager of merchandise tells me. “She’s signed books at the store three or four times and always draws a loyal crowd. People come from all over to see and talk to her. She’s easy to work with, well spoken and knows her readers. Besides autographing her latest book, she’ll take pictures. It’s a pleasure having her here.”

When it is my turn to meet the Brown I step up to shake her hand and I remark that she’s much better looking in person. “You’re not chopped liver either,” she says in her well-known down to earth manner. Pleased with my encounter and clutching my autographed book I see the woman who drove from Monterey to meet Brown. “Isn’t she wonderful?” she asks. “It was worth the trip!”

Sylvia Browne has been doing psychic readings professionally for more than 40 years. She also conducts lectures, classes, hypnosis, past life regressions and haunted house investigations. For more information go to www.sylvia.org or call (408) 379-7070.
