Mayor Ron Gonzales issues Family Week proclamation

A coalition of religious leaders from the South Bay will meet the evening of Nov. 21 at City Hall to hear Mayor Ron Gonzales proclaim the week of Nov. 19-25 as "San Jose Family Week."

Family Week is aimed at strengthening local families as they struggle with a staggering increase in the number of teenage pregnancies, domestic violence, child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, marital distress and many adolescent behavior problems. Clergy supporting the effort will encourage their congregations to hold family nights, discussions, service projects and other activities that promote family unity.

The City Council's proclamation coincides with the designation of Thanksgiving week as National Family Week by a joint resolution of Congress and a proclamation by the President of the United States.

Mayor Gonzales will present the proclamation at 1:30 p.m., in the City Council chambers of City Hall, 200 East Santa Clara Street. Some key religious leaders expected to attend from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Jose, Father Jose Rubio of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose, and Tahir Anwar, the Imam of the Muslim Mosque on North 3rd Street in San Jose.
