Leland alums donate to Parents’ Club
The Leland High School Class of 1987 held its 20-year reunion in September with several events and a lot of fun.
While many of the former students still live in the area, a number came from all over the United States, including Florida, New York, Alabama and Texas.

| Leland High School’s class of 1987 presented a $2,000 check to the Parents’ Club on Nov. 8. The check was profit left over from the class’s 20th reunion. Taking part in the ceremony are ASB president Crystal Adams, Leland’s vice president of guidance Nancy Dauenhauer, Parents’ Club president Tom Norton, Catherine Perrino from the class of 1987 reunion committee, reunion chair Kerry Allen and Leland Parents’ Club secretary Cathy Blecher. |
The one thing the group of about 140 people didn’t anticipate was having money left over from the three-day celebration.
The class netted a $2,000 profit, which the reunion committee agreed to donate to the school’s parents’ club. The club holds various fund-raising events to support a number of items including teacher wish lists for in-class technology and teaching aides, scholarships based on merit and unique capabilities, on-site AVCS counseling, grad night, mailings, Every 15 Minutes, student activities, semi-annual career days, teacher appreciation day and senior brunch.
The reunion started with a casual get-together at Britannia Arms, the major dinner-dance at the Hotel Montgomery and ended with family day at the Almaden Art and Wine Festival. The class hopes to encourage other Leland classes to follow suit.
“If other alumni donated their reunion profits or just donated, we could further support the important programs at Leland,” said Catherine Perrino, a member of the class of 1987.
