Almaden’s Jeff Chang wins Johns Hopkins University
research award
Jeff Chang, a Johns Hopkins University neuroscience major from
Almaden, has been selected to receive research support to pursue
an independent research project. Chang, who is a senior in the university's
Krieger School of Arts and Sciences this fall, is one of 34 students
selected to receive research support under a Johns Hopkins program
called the Provost's Undergraduate Awards for Research and Excellence.
"The awards are intended to encourage undergraduate involvement
in original research," said Steven Knapp, the university's
provost and vice president for academic affairs. The opportunity
to be involved in important research is one of the distinguishing
characteristics of an undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins,
the leader among the nation's research universities in winning federal
research and development grants.
Winners of the awards come from each of the four Hopkins schools
with full-time undergraduates: the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts
and Sciences, the Whiting School of Engineering, the School of Nursing
and the Peabody Institute.
Chang will be working this fall on a project titled “The
Role of IP3 Receptors in Visual Cortical Long Term Depression”
with faculty advisor Alfred Kirkwood. Chang is the son of Oran and
Jiunn Chang and attended Simonds Elementary School, Bret Harte Middle
School and Leland High School.
