Chris Willard attains Eagle Scout rank

Christopher Cody Willard of Troop 271 attained the rank of Eagle Scout on July 26, 2004. Willard will be honored by family, friends and fellow scouts at a ceremony Nov. 14 at the San Jose Masonic Center, 2500 Masonic Drive in San Jose.

To become an Eagle Scout, one must earn at least 21 merit badges in separate fields of interest and skills, do a community service project, and hold various leadership positions within the troop. His community project involved refurbishing the outdoor classroom at Simonds Elementary School. While a Cub Scout at Simonds, Cody earned the highest rank in Cub Scouting: the Arrow of Light.

Willard is a junior at Leland High School. He played football for the Leland Chargers and is currently on the wrestling team. He belongs to the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society, and recently achieved the second membership level: Brotherhood. He also belongs to the National Eagle Scout Association. He is currently in the process of moving to the next level of scouting, earning a different colored Eagle Palm for each five additional earned merit badges.
