Street Talk by Carol Rosen

Are you glad the election’s almost over? Do you mind the long wait in line to vote—why or why not?
(Voters in line at St. Basil’s)

“Yes, I’m glad it’s almost over because we’ve been getting too many recorded calls from people and too much mail. I waited 25 minutes in line; I timed it, but it was no problem because we brought my son’s homework with us. “

Sandi Domingue, 36
Almaden
Part-time transportation planner

“Yes, I’m tired of the rhetoric and the mudslinging, and I’ve gotten too many phone calls. I’ve only been waiting five minutes, but the wait doesn’t matter.”

Mary Ham, 55
Almaden
Retired financial analyst

“Yes, I’m glad it’s almost over, I’m anticipating that we finally will be relieved. Anyone running should stick to the issues and not attack each other. I’m a little concerned about my vote, because I changed my address. I’ve only been waiting about five minutes, but I don’t care.”

Steven Dusza, 40ish
Almaden
Para-educator at Oak Grove High School

“Yes I’m glad it’s almost over because we won’t get any more political ads, especially the ones that are too large to fit in the mailbox. I’m also tired of getting phone calls at 9:30 at night. We’ve gotten no less than five in the past few days, we get at least one a day. I’ve been in line for about 20 minutes, but I don’t mind. I think back to my great grandmother who couldn’t vote because it wasn’t legal for women [back then].”

Tracy Malak, 26
Almaden
Engineer with the city of San Jose

“I’m not necessarily glad that it’s almost over, it’s a very important election. I haven’t been waiting too long, about 10 or 15 minutes. It’s an important election with lots of issues, it’s worth standing in line for.”

Elizabeth Pombo, 40
Almaden
Junior kindergarten teacher

“Yes, I’ll be glad it’s over because I’m tired of the same news every day. But, no, I will miss it because I enjoy watching the “Daily Show” every night. I’ve been in line about 25 minutes. It’s good, I’m glad people are voting.”

Molly Singer, 36
Almaden
Second grade teacher

“The electioneering doesn’t bother me. It used to be worse with Clinton. I’ve only been in line for about five minutes. I think I might be here an hour before I get to vote, but I don’t mind. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Chris Adamkiewicz, 38
Almaden
Construction

“Yes I’ll be glad when it’s over. I think it’s time the nation gets back together again so that it can do its job. I think electronic voting is more efficient and it’s better with high technology. I waited about 20-30 minutes and it was absolutely worth it.”

Jerry Rose, 59
Almaden
Teacher at Leland
