Do you think the Democrats will take back the House or the Senate in next week’s election? How would that affect the average citizen?
(Asked the Via Valiente Plaza)

"I think they will take back the House and Senate. That means we probably won’t get the federal support we need for BART and our taxes likely will go up.”

Pat Sterner, 74
Almaden
Retired

"They might take them back, there are lots of people that aren’t pleased with the current administration. Overall, I don’t think it will affect the average citizen very much. There’s too much bureaucracy either way."

Lon Walton, 40

Science teacher at Leland

“That subject is on everybody’s mind right now. I personally feel we need a different kind of leadership; a leadership that will help protect our environment for the future.”

Stacey Winters

“Yes, I think they will get a lot more seats in the house. Obviously people are upset with Bush because of the way things are going, so it depends on a segment of the population and how they vote. I don’t think it will affect us much.”

Mark Burriesci, 35

“I am sorry, but I’m not much into politics, I can’t really answer the question. But I hope for conservative candidates to win because I like conservative ideas much better than liberal ones. Liberal ideas have taken the family and Biblical ideas out of our lives.”

Zosia Karabed, 50

“I think there are going to be some changes. Some changes might be good, but some might not be so good.”

Gaylynn Strong, 63
Almaden
Teacher’s aid in Special Ed at Bret Harte

“Well, I hope so. I don’t know what the effect will be, but I think as far as health care, helping our own people and maybe getting out of the war with Iraq, it might be better."

Anne DePalma, 56
Almaden
Homemaker

“I really don’t know. Politicians are politicians. They just point fingers at each other no matter what their party. [Our problems] are both the Republicans’ and Democrats’ faults. That’s why we keep having the problems we have.”

John McDonough, 51
