November 4 – Saturday
Journey on the Strings at the Montgomery Theater: This production will showcase the skillful blending of musical notes and sounds as different instruments are added. The opening piece will be a duet performance featuring Padit Habib Khan on Sitar with Larry Coryell on guitar in a unique composition based on western classical music. This will be the first time that an Indian musical instrument will play Western Classical Jazz. This will be followed by Indian Classical music played on both Indian and Western instruments with vocal support. Performance time: 6 p.m. Admission is $15 - $25. Pratham Musical Concert by Poonam: The San Jose McEnery Convention Center hosts a musical concert by Poonam Bhatia and her orchestra. Organized by the Bay Area chapter of Pratham SF, This popular and melodious singer from Mumbai, India will make your evening even more enjoyable by incorporating our own bay area, award winning dance performers from NNJ dance group into the evening’s entertainment. Local artists will perform their best numbers and yes, Arti Parekh will tickle your funny bone with jokes and shairy. Come, relax and enjoy a fun-filled evening for a great cause! October 21 – January 15, 2007
The new exhibit, “Dragons and Fairies: Exploring Viet Nam through Folktales,” opens at the Children’s Discovery Museum in San Jose. “Dragons and Fairies” is designed to educate children ages 5-12 about the rich cultural heritage of the Vietnamese people. It provides an opportunity to explore the lives and traditions of people living in modern and ancient Viet Nam. The Children’s Discover Museum is located at 180 Woz Way, in downtown San Jose, at the intersection of Woz Way and Auzerais Street. Hours are Tuesday–Saturday: 10 a.m. -5 p.m.; Sunday: noon-5 p.m. Member’s only hour is Sunday 11 a.m. – noon.

November 2 - 19
Bonfante Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy has extended the 2006 regular operating season. Visitors can now enjoy six (6) additional days of fall fun at California's only horticultural theme park. The new operating days are November 4-5, 11-12 and 18-19 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information about the regular 2006 season, visit www.bonfantegardens.org.

Radio Disney’s Jingle Jam Concert at South Hall: Radio Disney AM 1310 KMKY is hosting its 6th annual Jingle Jam Concert, presented by FoodMaxx and sponsored by Disney Mobile! This free event is full of fun things to do for the entire family, including interactive game booths and activities, a visit from Santa Claus and more. Plus, live on stage - the star of the hit new Disney Channel Show "Hannah Montana", Miley Cyrus, performing as Hannah Montana. Also performing are the Jonas Brothers and Nuttin' But Stringz. Come enjoy old movie classics, just the way you would have seen them in the 1920s! Attend the Silent Movie Night, at Divine Science Community Center, 1540 Hicks Avenue in San Jose. Drinks and popcorn will be provided. Everyone is invited. Featured will be “The Sheik” starring Rudolph Valentino. We will also present short films with Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy. The program begins at 7 p.m. The movies will be shown on a screen, accompanied by organist Gene Turner. Turner has learned his improvisational technique while watching the famous theatre organist Gaylord Carter, and has a large repertoire of popular tunes. CLASSES

“Hands On Clay” classes in Almaden is accepting students for its Fall 2006 classes. These are small classes (4-6 students) taught by a teacher and artist. Class fees include instructions, all materials, use of tools, and kiln firings. Adult classes are held on Thursday evenings, and children classes are on Sunday early afternoons. Stroller Moms! by Strollecize(R) Certified Instuctor. A stroller fitness program designed for parents to help them get back in shape, get stronger, and keep healthy lifestyle. AARP Campbell Area Chapter 5151 meets the third Tuesday of every month (except December) at 9:30 a.m. in room Q-80, Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Ave for informative and fun programs.  Visitors from all communities are welcome. Call 378-6996
AARP Information Center needs volunteers to staff their office. Duties include helping seniors find various services and programs, and providing information on senior needs. The office is located at 840 Willow Street, Suite 300, at the corner of Bird and Willow Streets on bus route #25. VOLUNTEERS

Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) is actively recruiting volunteers who are interested in fostering dogs or puppies. Canine foster parents provide short and long-term care for dogs or puppies who are either fearful of being in a shelter environment, too young to be adopted or need time to heal from an injury or illness. World Wellness Weekend: World Wellness Weekend is a unique community “lifestyle” annual event representing a multi-dimensional, complimentary view of health and wellness. Held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center & Civic Auditorium, The San Jose World Wellness Weekend (WWW) features Deepak Chopra, named by Time Magazine as one of the “top 100 icons of the 20th century”, delivering the opening Keynote Address Friday night, at the Civic Auditorium. The "Colors of Autumn" donation drive for the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter (on Union Ave. ) will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 15885 Los Gatos-Almaden Road in Los Gatos, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are asking the community to come and donate new pajamas, backpacks, school supplies, art supplies, personal CD players, activity books, children's DVDs and other child friendly items for the children at the shelter.  After dropping off donations, the community is invited to stay and enjoy an autumn festival with pony rides, a quilt auction, a cake walk, a petting zoo, bingo, scarecrow building, a jumpy house, fall activities, crafts and free BBQ.

The King’s Head Pub, 201 Orchard City Drive in Campbell, is holding a fundraising benefit for Moma Linda, a long-time employee of the Almaden Feed and Fuel. Fall Furry Flurry - 5K all breed Dog Walk for the whole family at Los Gatos Creek County Park. Hosted by the Bay Area Siberian Husky Club, this walk is set up for pledges for walking to support any Bay Area Animal Rescue Organization of your choice. Each canine participant will receive a goody bag of treats, and Frosty Paws; each human participant will receive a long-sleeved Fall Furry Flurry T-shirt. Jana McBurney-Lin author of “My Half of the Sky,” will be visiting the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at 5353 Almaden Expressway, at 7 p.m. to discuss her debut novel and autograph books. In “My Half of the Sky,” McBurney-Lin introduces Li Hui, a young Chinese woman of marriageable age who has recently graduated from the university. Li Hui struggles with finding love and acting with honor. Guidance and advice come from all corners of her world as well as different and conflicting generational, historical and cultural values.

November 8 – Wednesday
Hospice of the Valley presents, “Getting Through the Holidays,” a special community event that offers emotional support and practical ideas for getting through the first holiday season without your loved one. Adult members of bereaved families from the community are encouraged to attend this pre-holiday event from 7 – 9 p.m. at Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Avenue in San Jose, near Hwy 85.
