When Susanne Hovis, Auto Auction Manager for Goodwill of Silicon Valley, received a motorized scooter donation she decided to find a deserving member of the community who could use it. Through a referral from Outreach Paratransit Transportation, Susanne was put in contact with Marlene Erickson.
Seven years ago, Marlene Erickson suffered a stroke that left her weak and with a seizure disorder. Fiercely independent, Marlene has depended on an electric scooter to help her shop for groceries and run errands for herself and her son Frank, who she takes care of and is also disabled. Eight weeks ago, Marlene’s scooter broke down. After a month in a repair shop, she was told that parts were not available and has relied on Outreach Paratransit Transpor-tation since.
“My scooter was my lifeline,” said Marlene Erickson. “When I was told it would take several weeks or more to fix, I was very upset. I am so grateful to Goodwill for this new scooter. I hope other people will donate to Goodwill so they can continue to help people like they’ve helped me.”
