Family of slain officer invites community to candlelight vigil this Saturday

The parents of San Jose Police Officer Jeffrey Fontana, who was killed in the line of duty in Almaden Valley in October of 2001, will be holding their fifth annual candlelight vigil this Saturday to honor their son.

Fontana’s mother, Sandy, has vowed to hold the vigil every year until her son’s accused killer, Deshawn Campbell, stands trial. Campbell’s lawyer has been granted several continuances much to the dismay of Fontana’s family, the San Jose Police Department and members of the community.

The candlelight procession will begin at the site of Fontana’s slaying, 1103 Calle Almaden, and will proceed to nearby Jeffrey Fontana Park.
