Almaden's Rachel Pitzen leads tours of “The Hill”
Almaden's Rachel Pitzen is in her first year of college at American University in Washington, DC., and already she's making a name for herself. She is one of 45 students selected to be involved in a mentorship program, and after being interviewed further, was chosen to serve as an assistant in the office of California Congressman Darrell Issa. Issa represents the 49th District and privately helped fund the California governor recall. Pitzen attends 15 units of classes and works on Capitol Hill two days a week.
One of Pitzen's duties on Capitol Hill is conducting tours of the Capitol. She recently gave her first tour to Tracey Giglione, an employee and resident of San Jose. Giglione was so impressed that she quickly sent off an e-mail to thank Pitzen for her tour. “Thanks for the tour, we really enjoyed it. Our pictures turned out great of the capitol building, all 40 something of them. …We appreciated you taking the time, you did a great job for your first tour.”
Pitzen has lived in Almaden all her life. She attended Almaden Country School K-8 , then graduated from Mitty High School. Pitzen is really looking forward to the visit of 8th grade students from Almaden Country School in April as she conducts their tour. The class will include her younger sister Sarah. |
