Leland spirit squad invites you to Homecoming 2003

The new squad is picked and straight away the girls of the Leland Spirit Squad are forming committees and having meetings, preparing for their biggest fundraising event of their 2003/2004 season —homecoming.

This year's theme will be Sunshine Dreams. The girls, along with their parents and volunteers, will be transforming the Leland High School cafeteria into scenes from California. These include San Francisco with a model of the Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood, and a beach scene, and of course, it would not be complete without the venue of their 2003 National win, Disneyland.

To kick off the celebrations, a rally will be held in the Leland Gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. The girls invite students, alumni and the community to come and join in this admission-free evening. There will be skits from both the spirit squad and the football players, along with music and entertainment from the Leland band and drill team.

This year sees a slight change in the homecoming schedule. Presentation of seniors and their parents, from the spirit squad, varsity football team, band and drill team will take place during the rally, not as in previous years during the games. So please come along and support the students, who not only are busy participating in this event and their various extra-curricular activities, but who are also busy finalizing their college applications!

The festivities continue the following morning, Saturday, Nov. 8. Coach Kelly Edwards and the Leland football teams will be taking on Prospect High School. The JV team will kick off at 10.30 a.m. After the completion of the JV game, the homecoming parade will begin. There will be floats decorated by each class together with the spirit squad, band and drill team. Also a number of local elementary and middle school groups will be participating.

Following the parade, the day continues with the Leland varsity team taking on the varsity team from Prospect High School.
