Rash of car break-ins at Quicksilver Park
Editor,
Could you please run this warning: Recently several cars have been broken into during the day at the McAbee entrance to the Quicksilver trails.
On Friday, Sept. 30, while walking down McAbee after parking on the street, I noticed several areas on the street with shattered car glass. When we arrived at the trailhead, a woman was putting up signs to warn hikers about the car break-ins and theft. Her daughter’s car window was smashed at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 and her briefcase, diaper bag, and wallet were stolen. Another couple we met had their truck window smashed in on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m., and everything in the truck cab stolen. These cars were parked on McAbee facing sidewalks with wooden fences. The glass breaking noise isn’t noticed because of all the construction work going on in the new housing development.
Please be careful about leaving valuables in your vehicles.

Remember your pets when preparing for earthquake survival
Editor,
Our neighborhoods need to make sure we can survive on our own if a disaster occurs. The white pages of your phone book or your local Red Cross chapter will tell you what articles we should all have on hand for our families. But, please don’t forget food and water for your pets! Help may not arrive for many days.
TIPS:
- Space bags to store blankets, clothes, etc.
- Wrench to turn off gas and water
- Non-battery powered flashlights
- Distilled water for drinking stores longer
- Pet food and water. Pet carriers, leashes.
- Pet tags with name of pet and phone number along with pet chips if they have one. (Chips need to be scanned to be seen). Recent pictures of pets to ID them. (Check with the Humane Society for more information).
- First-aid book for people and animals
