Los Alamitos to hold Saturday fundraiser

Los Alamitos Elementary School will hold its biggest fundraiser, Walk on the Wild Side, on Saturday, Oct. 4. The teachers and students have been busily working to make this year’s fundraiser as successful as the previous one. They are busy collecting pledges and teachers are practicing their traditional dance. Parent volunteers are working hard collecting donations and preparing the room for another successful Silent Auction. Come hungry, because there will be great food, fun activities for the children. Come early, the program starts at 9 a.m. and stay for all the “wild” fun, it ends around 4 p.m. Los Alamitos is located at 6130 Silberman Dr.

Cub Scouts help with coastal cleanup

Cub Scout Pack 281 turned out in full force to help with the 2008 Coastal Cleanup held on Saturday, Sept. 20 and they had a great time. Sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, this annual event picks up hundreds of thousands of pounds of litter off our coasts and waterways throughout the bay area. Locally the scouts helped by cleaning up Bullmore Park and Los Alamitos Creek in New Almaden. The early morning crew did much of the work gathering bottles and cans (to be recycled) as well as an old couch that can be hauled to the dump. They also cleaned up lots of cigarette butts, which apparently deer will eat—it’s not just a bad habit for people.

Thanks to the following scouts for volunteering their time and energy. Den 1—Bobby Jabbari and Anuj Kamdar; Den 2— Tristan McNair, Colin Bradley, Brian MacInnes and Rajiv Ashtaputre; Den 5—Samuel Morris, Jacob Abrew and Carter Hopkins; Den 6—Jack Dasch, Christopher Divivier, Philip Barbara, Michael Drury and Spencer Karr; Den 7— Kyle Ness, Robert Dasch, Justin Neff, Matt Degnan and Matthew Dexter; and Den 8— Andrew Young.
