California Transportation Commission allocates $239 million for BART

Mayor Chuck Reed thanked the California Transportation Commission for voting last week to approve $239 million in state transportation funds for the BART extension from Warm Springs to Santa Clara County.

“The BART extension will help complete a regional transportation system, a vital part of our economic future,” said Reed. “With more than 98,000 projected riders each weekday, BART will provide an efficient way for Bay Area residents to commute while lessening our dependence on foreign oil and helping the environment. I am delighted that the California Transportation Commission has authorized this $239 million in funding for the Valley Transportation Agency, moving the BART extension forward and bringing relief to our congested freeways.”

The $239 million in state funds will be used to complete engineering for the southern BART extension and will complete state funding of $760 million for bringing BART to San Jose.
