To gain her release, the Firebird gives Ivan a feather, with the promise of her magic intercession if he should ever need it. Flemming Flindt’s “Phaedra” is based on the play “Hippolytus” by Euripides, and tells the tale of a queen whose lust for her stepson leads to his murder and her suicide, set to a commissioned score by Philip Glass.
