Three hundred schools to host Boy Scout recruitment night Sept. 21

Three hundred public and private schools throughout the Santa Clara County Council of the Boy Scouts of America will be open the evening of Sept. 21 where boys in grades 1-5 and their families can sign up for Cub Scouting.

With more than 4 million youth members, the Boy Scouts of America is one of America’s most popular youth organizations. Scouting offers boys the opportunity to participate in the fun and challenging activities they need while simultaneously instilling the values that will help launch them on a successful course for life.

In fact, men who were Scouts five or more years as boys are more likely to:

• Graduate from high school and college
• Earn higher annual household incomes
• Value family relationships highly
• Have lifelong friendships
• Believing helping others should come before one’s own self-interest

In addition, more than 80 percent of men who were Scouts say that there have been real-life situations in which having been a Scout helped them to be a better leader.

“In scouting, boys learn lessons about life and the value of being a person with character and integrity,” said Dick Noack, vice president of membership for the Santa Clara County Council of the Boy Scouts of America. “On recruitment night, we are enabling boys to join the Scouting program and experience and explore life to its fullest.”
