On Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 to 11:45 a.m., ventriloquist extraordinaire Steve Chaney and his friend Cornelius Crowe will amaze and wow children and adults with their rib-tickling stories and fun. Lots of audience participation and a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Sponsored by the Friends of the Vineland Branch Library. This event takes place in Vineland’s community room.

Patriot Day film screening and discussion
In a post-9/11 era, what does democracy, freedom, peace, citizenship and patriotism really mean? Join us Saturday, Sept. 10 from 3-5 p.m. for a screening of the film “Well Founded Fear.” This film deals with the topics of immigration, citizenship and political asylum. An opportunity for discussion will follow the film. This event takes place in Vineland’s community room.

- The Vineland Branch Library is having bookmark contest Sept. 3-Oct. 15 in celebration of Children’s Book Week. Children and young adults in grades one through 12 are invited to create an original bookmark promoting books and the joy of reading. Entry forms can be picked up at the Vineland Branch Library beginning Sept. 3.

- On Friday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m., teens (ages 13-18) are invited to participate in our monthly Teens Reach meeting held in the library’s community room. Community service credits are given to participating students.

- Science Fiction buffs, we have a book club for you! On Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. we will discuss Mary Doria Russell’s “Sparrow.” Visitors are always welcome.

- Adult Mystery Book Club will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 6:45 p.m. in Vineland’s community room. The book under discussion will be Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic “Hound of the Baskervilles.” All mystery fans are invited to attend.

- The Evening Book Discussion group meets on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 7-9 p.m. in the library’s community room. Join us in a stimulating discussion of Mary Gordon’s “Pearl.” Visitors are welcome.

- After-School Youth Activity Program. On Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 3:15-4:45 p.m., Vineland branch library is hosting a fun program geared to students in the sixth through the 12th grades. The Friends of the Library will be providing free sodas and snacks. This event takes place in Vineland’s community room.

- The book discussion group for seniors (50+) meets on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10:15 a.m. in the library’s community room. The book under discussion is Geraldine Brooks’ novel “March.”

- The ESL Conversation Club is held every Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. in Study Room A. This one-hour session is a great way to practice your English and to make friends at the library. No pre-registration required.

- Family Story Time will be held on Saturdays at 11 a.m. in Vineland’s community room.

-“Mr. K’s” preschool story time will be held on Wednesdays at 11:15 a.m. in the community room.

- Chinese/English Story Times will be presented on Wednesday, Sept. 7 and Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.

- Persian/English Story Time will be presented on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

- On Fridays, Toddler Story Time (ages 24-35 months) is held at 10:15 a.m. and Preschool Story Time (ages 3-5) is at 11:15 a.m.

- Mother Goose Story Time (ages 12–24 months) is held on Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. This is a 20-minute program.

- Story Time Express, a 15-minute story time for preschoolers, is held every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Vineland Branch Library is located at 1450 Blossom Hill Road. The library will be closed Monday, Sept. 5 for Labor Day. Please note the new hours: Monday 2 p.m.-7 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and starting Sept. 18, Sunday 1-5 p.m. For questions, call 808-3000 during business hours.
