Local neighborhood honors victims of 9/11

Five years ago, Randy and Gwen Parker gathered with their neighbors to share their sadness after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They stood in silence as Randy played taps at the end of the gathering. This past Monday, they congregated again on the fifth anniversary of the attacks.

“Recent television documentaries and dramatizations vividly remind us of the day that changed our country forever,” said Gwen Parker. “My family knew 11 people who lost friends and family that day. Another neighbor’s daughter lost her Pioneer High School friend. Our nation lost its confidence that people in America are safe from terrorism.”

The Parkers live on Croyden Avenue, but neighbors and friends traveled from neighboring streets and nearby Almaden to remember the lives lost on 9/11.
