group begin at Almaden Branch Library
Almaden Branch Library
By Ed Koetitz
Young Adult Librarian
On Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 6:30-7:30 pm, we are pleased to offer an informative “E-Audio Books and E-Books 101” class. Over the past few years, the San Jose Public Library has greatly expanded its variety and selection of e-books and e-audios and has significantly simplified access and ease of use for our customers. The library currently offers two types of eBooks: downloadable eBooks that can be temporarily stored on a computer or PDA and can be read after disconnecting from the Internet, and browsable eBooks that cannot be downloaded but are read while connected to the Internet. This class will examine the various types of materials that are currently available and will give information on how to download the various formats. This class takes place in the library’s Program Room.

ESL conversation group gets started at the Almaden
Branch Library
Starting on Wednesday, Sept. 20, we are pleased to offer an ESL conversation and discussion group that will be held every Wednesday from noon to 1 pm. This is a fun and relaxing opportunity to increase one’s English fluency and to meet new friends at the library who are seeking similar goals and objectives. The ESL conversation group will meet in the library’s Program Room.
Events
- On Friday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m., teens (ages 13-18) are invited to participate in our monthly Teens Reach meeting held in the library’s program room. The purpose of the group is to provide input on library programming and purchases that are geared for teens. Community service credits are given to participating students. Light refreshments are served.
- Family Story Time will be held on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s program room. Barbara Gilbert, Almaden’s children’s librarian, will share fun stories, songs, and finger plays geared toward the whole family.
- Preschool Story Time will be held on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. in the library’s program room. “Mr. K” will share stories, finger plays, songs and puppets, for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers. Please note: starting in October, Preschool Story Time will be offered on Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. and a Mother Goose Story Time (ages 12 months–2 years) will be held on Fridays at 10:30 a.m.
