Celebrate the Constitution and the Bill of Rights
Editor,
In honor of Constitution Week (Sept. 17–23), I would love to see Almaden residents fly their flags in celebration of this great document.
Americans should be proud of a document that not only was revolutionary when it was written (Great Britain’s was unwritten at the time and France really only had a statement of purpose) but has survived over 200 years. It has continued to develop as our society has continued to develop and its words continue to inspire those promoting freedom throughout the world.
The Constitution and subsequently the Bill of Rights were created to protect the rights of all United States citizens equally and provide due process under the law. America is one of the few countries on earth where such a document exists to protect its people and we should all take just a moment to reflect on the many benefits we enjoy which are provided by the Constitution.
