Chinese Author Program
Qin Xiao-meng, author of “Heartbeats and Heartaches: Memoirs of an Intellectual Family in China,” will speak about her recent publication at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. The book is described as a family saga that records life experiences of the members of four generations of an intellectual family in China’s social, cultural and political upheavals from the late Qing Dynasty through Republican days to more specifically the tumultuous years during the Cultural Revolution. This program is in English and held in Vineland Library’s community room.
Events
- The Teens Reach meeting is Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. Teens (ages 13-18) are invited to participate in this monthly meeting in the library’s community room to provide input on library programming and acquisitions geared for teens and seeks to foster leadership and academic skills. Community service credits are given to participating students. Light refreshments will be served.
- Science Fiction fans! We will discuss C.J. Cherryh’s “Down Below Station” at our next meeting, Saturday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. Visitors are always welcome.
- Friends of the Vineland and Almaden Branches will meet Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in Vineland Library’s community room. This is a community-based organization that supports the goals and objectives of the public library. Part of the discussion will focus on Vineland’s Oct. 30 book sale. First-time visitors are always welcome.
- ESL Conversation Club is Wednesday Sept. 15 and 29 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Practice your English and make friends at the library. This group is designed to help new English speakers with their conversational skills.
- The Evening Book Discussion group meets on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 7-9 p.m. in the library’s community room to discuss Z.Z. Packer’s “Drinking Coffee Elsewhere.”
- The book discussion group for seniors (50+) meets on Thursday Sept. 23 at 10:15 a.m. in the library’s community room. The book under discussion is Tracy Chevalier’s “The Lady and the Unicorn.”
- Family Story Time is held every Wednesday at 7 p.m. The first Wednesday of each month is a bilingual Chinese/English Family Story Time.
- Toddler Story Time (ages 24-35 months) is held on Fridays at 10:15 a.m. and Preschool Story Time (ages 3-5) is at 11:15 a.m.
- Mother Goose Story Time (ages 12 – 24 months), a 20-minute program, is held on Tuesdays at 11:10 a.m.
- Story Time Express, a 15-minute story time for preschoolers, is held Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.
Vineland Branch Library is located at 1450 Blossom Hill Road. It is open Monday through Wednesday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (the library will be closed Monday, Sept. 6 for Labor Day).
