What were the best and the worst movies you saw this summer?
(Asked the Almaden Center)
“My least favorite was ‘Snakes on a Plane.’ I haven’t seen it and I don’t want to either. The best movie was a tie between ‘Clerks II,’ which was really very funny and ‘Silent Hill,’ which was awesome. This guy goes looking for his girlfriend in this spooky town and all kinds of stuff ensues.”
Kevin Klug, 19
Almaden
West Valley College student; works at Blockbuster
“My least favorite was Woody Allen’s movie ‘Scoop.’ It was very boring. Woody Allen was typically Woody Allen and Scarlet Johannsson’s acting wasn’t great and she’s usually pretty good. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ was my favorite. I liked the special effects and I like Johnny Depp.”
Barbara Reghitto, 50ish
Almaden
Retired teacher (from Simonds Elementary)
“The best movie was ‘Step Up.’ It was about dancing and this guy who had problems and ended up doing community service and stepping in when the girl’s partner got injured. I didn’t like ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ because it left us hanging and it was too long."
Rachel Kabel, 12
Almaden
Seventh grader at Bret Harte Middle School
“‘Superman Returns’ because it wasn’t like other sequels, it was really well done. All the movies I saw were good, but I have no desire to see ‘Snakes on a Plane.’”
Drew Antes, 12
Almaden
Eighth grader at Holy Spirit
“‘Pulse’ was the worst movie in the world. It’s the only movie I’ve ever asked for my money back, and they gave it back too! I was so disappointed. The best movie was ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’ I didn’t like how it leaves you hanging, but I like the trilogy idea.”
Cami Parsons, 23
Almaden
DeAnza College student
“I really liked ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ because it was fun to see. I read it with my book club. I was a little disappointed in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean [The Curse of the Black Pearl]’ because the story line wasn’t as good as the first one and it left me hanging.”
Sheri Oesterreich, 50ish
Almaden
Santa Clara Water District
"‘Da Vinci Code’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ were very good. I can’t think of any bad ones.”
Garrett Hall, 14
Almaden
Freshman at Bellarmine Prep
"‘Failure to Launch’ was cute. Nothing really bad comes to mind, but I haven’t been to that many movies."
Dawn Georgiou, 46
Almaden
Dietary consultant
“I only see movies with my children. I liked ‘Cars’ because it was good for the kids, and I liked it a lot for myself. The worst movie was ‘Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.’ I fell asleep.”
