District 10 Report

Volunteers make all the difference

By Councilmember Nancy Pyle
Special to the Times

Over the past four years I met hundreds of residents involved with their community and neighborhood organizations. What a treat!

I am still amazed at the level of volunteerism that occurs in District 10 and how passionate people are for their neighborhoods. Many of you truly believe that helping others is not a choice, it’s a responsibility. Here are a few examples.

The residents in the Montevideo neighborhood are aggressively moving to have every resident trained and registered with the “Neighborhood Watch” program. The Pierce Ranch Neighborhood has been busy keeping an eye out for car burglars and solving other thefts associated with the Quicksilver Park entrance. The VEP neighborhood residents are working with the county and city to develop the Martial Cottle Park Master Plan and landscaping Vista Park. These, and the other neighborhood associations throughout District 10, have improved all of our lives. I am glad I’ve had the occasion to work with so many of these fantastic groups.

Most of the time I’m at City Hall; yet even there, District 10 shines with a countless number of residents who sit on City Commissions, which are in place to advise the City Council on policy areas such as planning, parks and recreation and rent control. These individuals sacrifice many weeknights a month to represent all of us. At right is a list of the District 10 commissioners. Please join me in thanking them!

Neighborhood Associations and City Commissions are just a few of the ways District 10 residents can get involved. Please contact the District 10 Office, at (408) 535-4910 or district10@sanjoseca.gov, if you would like more information about volunteering.
