Pioneer High School looked like a scene straight out of the movie “Pleasantville” as nearly 500 revelers soaked up the “Hot August Night” carnival Saturday evening. The event was sponsored by the Journey Christian Church, which meets at the school Sunday mornings

The carnival was a chance for church members to reach out to the community for some good old-fashioned fun.
Children enjoyed having their faces painted, sliding down a three-story slide, playing a fishing game, balloon popping and spinning a colorful wheel for a prize, while their parents imbibed in root beer floats and hot dogs.
And in a nod to current pop culture, the gymnasium turned into a huge video arcade where teenagers tested their musical prow-ess on the game Rock Band and competed in racing games for the chances to win a brand-new WII console.
“Several neighbors told me that they saw our signs but didn’t know what The Journey was all about,” said Lead Pastor Jeff Wenke. “I hope this connection helps people realize there is a young, energetic church here. The Journey loves to make a positive difference in our community. We were thrilled to see all the kids and families enjoying time together playing simple games and having a great night.”
