Hidden Creek holds second annual block party
Summer is a time for fun and games and that’s exactly what happened last Saturday at the Hidden Creek cul-de-sac in Almaden Valley.
More than 100 people came to the second annual Hidden Creek Block Party including about 60 adults and upwards of 45 children. They came mostly on foot, but many of the younger set brought their trikes, bikes and scooters to start the afternoon off with a bike parade led by Brent Kuhns in his restored Volkswagen bus. At least 30 children ages 2 to 12 participated in all manner of wheeled vehicles.
There were lots of things to do too. The older kids—5 and up—had fun with a bouncy maze and their younger siblings got to jump around in a bouncy house. There was face-painting, kick ball and a water balloon toss. There was also lots of music.
There was also food, much more than the group could eat, including salads, appetizers, chips and dips and desserts. Each family brought their own main dish—everything from hot dogs and sausages to chicken, hamburgers and tri tip—as well as a covered dish for everyone to enjoy.
“It’s a great time for everyone,” said Michelle Iversen who was one of the seven women who put the afternoon together. “ We got to sit and talk and play games and meet new neighbors that we’ve never had a chance to meet.”
The seven women who set the afternoon up also included Lisa Scudero, Kelly Kuhns, Debbie Coldiron, Marion Thomas, Joanne Bejar and Carla Gentry. The entire neighborhood donated money to rent the bouncy houses.
“We hope to continue doing this annually,” said Scudero. “It’s a great way to end the summer and gear up for school.”
Even though it was a great time and lasted past the first few stars coming out, the group is already beginning to plan next summer’s party and add some new activities and events.
