Health Trust participates in Guadalupe River Park & Gardens celebration Sept. 10
The Health Trust is joining other local health organizations to remind people that “Healthy Living Is A Walk In The Park” as part of the community celebration of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The free event invites the public to explore the new park that extends for 2.6 miles through downtown San Jose, from Highway 280 to Interstate 880, along the banks of the Guadalupe River. The park and adjacent Guadalupe Gardens area provide flood control, protection of sensitive environmental habitats, recreation and beautiful open space in the center of the tenth largest city in America.
The park also provides a convenient and appealing place to walk, run, skate or bicycle - exercises that are recommended daily for a healthy lifestyle.
The Health Trust is sponsoring several activities on Sept. 10 that demonstrate how Guadalupe River Park & Gardens can be used for improving fitness and overall health. Partnering with Generations Community Wellness Centers, another local nonprofit agency, The Health.
Trust will set up fun fitness stations that will show participants how to take advantage of park features to increase strength, agility, flexibility, balance, aerobic and muscle endurance.
Joanie Greggains, host of KGO Radio’s popular Saturday morning health & fitness show, will also be at the park to talk about exercise and nutrition. Other organizations participating in the Sept. 10 event include Kaiser Permanente, which will present healthy cooking demonstrations, and several departments from county’s Public Health Department.
Activities related to “Healthy Living Is A Walk In The Park” will be located in the Arena Green/Confluence Point area of the park between Santa Clara and Julian streets, west of Highway 87. Other family activities on Sept. 10 will be held in other areas of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens including Discovery Meadow, McEnery Park, Guadalupe Gardens, Columbus Park and the new Visitor Center on Coleman.
Free entertainment on six stages throughout the day will include performances by Hawaii’s Makaha Sons, Trout Fishing in America, Jose Luis Orozco, Banana Slug String Band, San Jose Metropolitan Band, San Jose Taiko, Tuba Union of the Bay Area, Peninsula Banjo Band, Los Lupenos, and many others.
