Times welcomes baby William!
Times staff writer Lorraine Gabbert gave birth to William Preston Gabbert on July 28. He weighed in at 8 lbs. and is 19 ½ inches long with “lots of dark hair.” Both mother and baby are doing great. Congratulations to Lorraine and her husband Matthew, big sister Allison and big brothers Michael and Jonathan.
Mountain lion spotted on Los Gatos Creek Trail
The Los Gatos Police Department is warning the public that there have been several mountain lion sightings around Los Gatos Creek Trail, St. Joseph’s Hill and Jones Road Trail. On the afternoon of July 26 a group of joggers contacted an officer to advise him that they saw what they believed to be a mountain lion on the Los Gatos Creek Trail about a half mile south of Main Street. Residents have also reported to Park Service officers that they have seen a mountain lion in the past week in the areas.
The Los Gatos police department encourages anyone who sees a mountain lion near an area that might jeopardize public safety to call 354-8600.
The California Department of Fish and Game offers the following suggestions for your safety:
- Do not hike or jog alone.
- Keep children close to you.
- Do not approach a lion
- Do not run from a lion
- Do not crouch or bend over
- Do all you can to appear larger
- Fight back if attacked

AVCA meeting this Monday on identity theft
The Almaden Valley Community Association will hold its monthly meeting this Monday, at the McDonald’s at 5925 Almaden Expressway at McAbee Road at 7 p.m. The topic of discussion will be identity theft.
Second units public meeting this Wednesday at Castillero
The City of San Jose will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 10 for District 10 residents at Castillero Middle School at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the second units issue.
