Almaden Valley Counseling Service to offer parent education classes and caregivers support group
Save the date: Almaden Times Classic Oct. 9
The Almaden Valley Counseling Service is offering parent education classes beginning in October. To be on the list to receive notification about the next classes send an email to staff@avcounseling.org or call (408) 997-0200.
The AVCS Geriatric Advisory Program will be offering a six-week Caregivers Support Group starting soon (the dates have yet to be determined). The group offers caregiver resources, support, education and interaction with other caregivers. The group will meet Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fee is $85. Exhibits writers workshop highlight 25th annual Steinbeck Festival August 4–7
The 25th annual Steinbeck Festival entitled “Folk, Film & Fish” marks the Silver Anniversary of this rich literary tradition Aug. 4–7. Noted speakers and panelists will present entertaining and informative programming for everyone from the casual reader to upcoming writers to the true Steinbeck aficionado.
A mini-writers’ workshop has been added to Sunday’s schedule. In addition, new bus tours and old favorites such as the “Red Pony Ranch” will be offered. The traditional theater package features “Cannery Row” by The Western Stage with dinner at the Steinbeck House, the author’s birthplace and boyhood home.

Chamber mixer Thursday night at B J’s Brewhouse
The Almaden Business Association is holding an Evening Networking Mixer, Thursday, Aug. 4 at Oakridge Shopping Center’s B J’s Brewhouse, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This popular after-hours event is open to members and non-members will offer light food hosted by Almaden Business Association.
SJ police sergeant to discuss local crime issues at Monday’s AVCA meeting
The Almaden Valley Community Association will host speaker Sgt. Teresa Jeglum of the San Jose Police Department at its meeting Monday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at the McDonalds Restaurant at 5925 Almaden Expressway. Jeglum will discuss crime in our valley and the police response to the high number of recent auto thefts.
