“Spouses for Life – A Wedding Album” Opening Reception: Join us at 7 p.m. for an opening night wine and cheese reception for Photos and Stories of the historic newlywed couples married in San Francisco. For the first time ever in this country’s history, from February 12 to March 11, 2004, over 4000 same-sex couples were married in San Francisco before a worldwide audience. Six months later the California Supreme Court declared these marriages Null and Void. Not to us. This exhibition continues through Sept 16 at the Billy DeFrank Center, 983 The Alameda in San Jose. Admission for the exhibition and reception is free with donations greatly appreciated to help fund the exhibit.

17th Annual Miller Music in the Park Concert Series. Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez, Market Street near San Fernando Street in downtown San Jose. 16th Annual San Jose Jazz Festival. This year’s Opening Night Gala & Concert Fundraiser will be held on August 11 at the California Theatre. The Gala begins at 5:30 p.m. Concert to follow at 8 p.m. The Opening Night Gala & Concert Fundraiser helps support the San Jose Jazz’s Society’s year-round education and performance programming. Children’s Musical Theater ends its Mainstage season at the Montgomery Theater with the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” by musical theater greats Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. CMT updates this 1970’s classic to cast Jesus’ story in terms familiar to today’s audience, making him a charismatic coffee shop philosopher whose message and tolerance infuriates the mega-conglomerate suits. Instead of a cross, Jesus is put to death by lethal injection. Songs from the show, including “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “What’s the Buzz” and “I Don’t know How to Love Him,” are as powerful as ever. The 2005 Santa Clara County Fair, will have buildings and barns budging with exhibits from baked goods and dish gardens to poultry and livestock. Gateway Hall is expected to be packed with home arts including yummy homemade baked pies and cakes, canning, afghans, crochet items, quilts, weaving, hobbies and every collectible imaginable. Theme of the fair is “Green Beans, Pork ‘N Beans and Jelly Beans”. Highlights of the youth programs will include livestock judging, culminating in the auction. Among the youth activities planned are beef, sheep, Swine and goat shows, 4-H guide dogs, and junior horse and pony shows and round robin contest.

Thomas the Tank Engine will be in Felton at the Roaring Camp Railroads marking the 60th Anniversary of the Thomas & Friends storybook series and the 10th Anniversary of the Day Out With Thomas Events, this year is sure the be the best yet! This is a real train that has been converted into Thomas.

Children’s Musical Theater of San Jose presents “Sleeping Beauty” at the Montgomery Theater. CMT’s youngest performers cast a charm on the audience with a favorite childhood fairytale. This version, commissioned by Prince Street players, is filled with fairies, a funny villainess named Trollarina and few more magical spells than usual. Sleeping Beauty will feature beautiful sets and costumes and a large cast of 6- to 9- year olds, including many making their stage debut as CMT performers. The Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens are collaborating with History San Jose, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum & Planetarium, San Jose Museum of Art, Don Edward’s San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Tech Museum and the Winchester Mystery House to present a full week of unique educational experiences. San Jose Safari Summer Day Camp is designed for children ages 7 – 10 years. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Starting point is the Guadalupe Gardens Visitor Center, in San Jose.
