Making tamales at Plaza del Sol
Residents at Plaza del Sol, an independent living senior community located across from Princeton Plaza at 1380 Blossom Hill Road, enjoy making tamales under the expert instruction of Carmen Ortiz (seated). Assembling chicken tamales are, from left, Carmen Ortiz, Dorothy Mayo, Mary Lee Padgett, Delores Alvarez, Mary Martinez and Elvira Ortega. After the cooking class, residents enjoyed a delicious Mexican lunch followed by a fun game of Bingo.

Ch…Ch…Ch…Changes…
This past week residents saw the end of an era as the Almaden Branch Library and Community Center become a piles of rubble. The new library and center is scheduled for completion by May 2006.

Thieves steal and vandalize flags put up in New Almaden in honor of Pat Tillman
Disturbing acts of vandalism and stolen property have been reported recently in New Almaden. Flags that were hung in honor of Pat Tillman, the New Almaden man killed in April while serving in Afghanistan, have been stolen and other flags have been vandalized. The vandalized flags were returned torn and shredded and attached to telephone poles.
“All seven flags were stolen from the front of Casa Grande,” said Terri Sanislo-Williams, park interpreter for the Quicksilver Mining Museum. “I’ve replaced five of them but this needs to stop. The flags are there to honor Pat and all of our men and women fighting the war.”

31st Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races to feature Ferrari
More than 40,000 visitors worldwide are expected to attend the Historic Automobile Races in Monterey, the largest event held during the renowned classic car weekend in Monterey Aug. 13-15.
The Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, presented by Chrysler, will celebrate its 31st year at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The event is a tribute of motor racing history, historic automobiles and the people who made them.
Red will be the predominant hue as Ferrari, the fabled Italian sports and racing car marquee, is honored at this year’s Monterey Historic Automobile Races. “This past year we celebrated Ford during its 100th anniversary as both an automaker and an auto racer,” said Steven J. Earle, president of General Racing Ltd. and event founder. “And this year the event will honor Ferrari, Ford’s nemesis in the 60s for racing supremacy.”
Each year, more than 375 of the finest historic race and sports cars are entered in 14 race groups that span nearly
every era of motor sports history. Nearly every make that ever sported an entry number on its side is represented at the Rolex Monterey Historics. The famous names like Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Bugatti, Shelby, Lotus, Aston Martin, Maserati and Mustang, are among those well represented, as are some of the more obscure names such as Mercer, Allard, Devin, Talbot Lago, Morgan and Jowett Jupiter.
Car clubs are always welcome at the Historics. The special parking corrals are second only to the paddock in the number and quality of exotic and historic cars present over the weekend. Clubs can take advantage of discounted ticket prices for their members, not to mention a special parking area. The corrals allow the clubs to showcase their cars and provide a place to meet and socialize for their members.
The annual event supports the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula’s (SCRAMP) contribution to local charities. Last year, SCRAMP donated $507,500 to 70 Central Coast charitable and service organizations.
