AVCA president responds to article on directors’ meeting

Editor,
In a news article reporting on the machinations of an Almaden Valley Community Association (AVCA) directors’ meeting in the July 28, 2005 issue, the Almaden Times used an anonymous source as a headline insert: “The association has become increasingly isolated from the rest of the valley representing what some critics claim is a small number of wealthy landowners disconnected with the needs of most Almaden residents.”

This is an outright inaccurate statement. We are not representing wealthy landowners, but individual homeowners in our community who want to maintain and improve the quality of life in our valley. Our organization has held forums over the development of the Almaden Valley, and always debated the issues listening to both residents and developers arriving at a clear and fair conclusion—sometimes with the developers, and sometimes with the residents concerned with the issue. All this was done in as nonpolitical an atmosphere as is possible when regarding such emotional issues.

The AVCA is incorporated under the following mandate: “To stimulate interest in civic affairs; provide for the circulation of information; and make recommendations for community improvements and protection ... “

Come join us and see for yourself that this association does not deserve such a pejorative headline. Check our Web site (www.avca-sj.org) for details of our meeting on Monday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at the McDonalds Restaurant on McAbee and Almaden Expressway. San Jose Police Sgt. Teresa Jeglum will answer questions regarding crime in our valley and police response.

Lee Dimmitt
President, AVCA
