July 14 – August 5
The Fifth Annual Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival presents three plays in its repertory for the 2006 season in Oak Meadow Park, 200 Blossom Hill Road in Los Gatos. Festival Theatre Ensemble presents: Season opener "Hamlet," followed by Shakespeare's hilarious farce, "A Comedy of Errors." Both productions are directed by Bruce De Les Dernier. The season also includes the witty and poignant dark comedy "The Lion in Winter," directed by Amy Himes. Performance times are 8 – 11 p.m. This is an all-outdoor venue next to Lake Vasona County Park. The Tech Museum’s Weekly Summer Camps are hands-on science and technology classes for 4th-8th graders at the world-class Tech Museum of Innovation. Choose from 14 different class topics including Lego Robotics, Video Game Design, Roller Coaster Physics, Inventors’ Workshop and many more. The cost is $200 - $500 weekly. Children’s Musical Theater San Jose’s Mainstage performers present “Side Show,” performing 2 weeks only at the San Jose Repertory Theatre, 101 Paseo de San Antonio. This production is based on the true story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, conjoined twins who appeared as attractions in a variety of venues during the first half of the twentieth century. “Side Show” is directed and choreographed by CMT Artistic Director, Kevin R. Hauge Tickets are now on sale to the public for $18 adults, $13 children 12 and under. Special Target® Family Matinee performance Saturday, July 29 at 2pm, all tickets $9.50.

Christian Sports Camp “Beyond the Gold” Hours are 9 a.m. - noon. Ages 6-12 years. Choose soccer, basketball or cheerleading. Yu Gi Oh Sneak Preview Tournaments: Cascadegames.com will be hosting 2 types of Yu Gi Oh tournaments at the Civic Auditorium. August 2 - 30
San Jose's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library presents a Summer Dance Series. Learn how to dance and get healthy in a free five-week lunch-hour series. Attend one or all sessions. Instructors from local dance organizations and studios will demonstrate a variety of fun and easy dance styles - proving once and for all that getting healthy and fit needn't be dull! Audience participation is encouraged. Join us in Caret Plaza, just outside the east campus entrance to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Library. Each week will feature a different dance style in chronological order the classes are: Hip-Hop, Belly Dance, Salsa, Polynesian, and Line Dance. The series is hosted by King Library General Collections and sponsored by the Friends of the San Jose Public Library, San Jose State University Kinesiology Dept., Noho'ana Dance Company, and California Line Dance Association of America.
Tai Chi Chuan classes at Hakone Gardens: Beginning/intermediate classes are ongoing and meet on Thursdays from 3:45 - 4:55 p.m., Hakone Gardens is located at 21000 Big Basin Way, close to downtown Saratoga. Join other American Cancer Society volunteers for a casual and informative one-hour teleconference on what it means to be a Cancer Resource Volunteer. Stargazing Night at Rancho Cañada Del Oro Open Space Preserve - Perfect for those who love the night sky; join the Open Space Authority at the preserve on clear, dark nights when the land will be open just for you. The preserve is located in the western foothills of Santa Clara County (just south of Calero County Park.) San Jose Grand Prix: World class open-wheel racing returns to the streets of downtown with one of California’s largest and most anticipated sporting events. The San José Grand Prix will be so much more than a race. It’s a week-long festival both on and off the track. Activities include Speedfest, Pit Stop Park and Festival Areas with interactive games, live music, driver autograph sessions and more. Off-track events include a golf tournament, a drivers’ VIP party, the CXO Go Kart race and the Canary Fund gala fundraiser. Admission is $35 - $160. West Valley Light Opera will hold auditions for its first production of its new 42nd season, Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida,” from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on 7/29 and from 3 – 5 p.m. on 8/5. Both auditions will be held at the Saratoga Civic Theater, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue in Saratoga. Callbacks will be held on Sunday, August 6, 7- 9 p.m. Rehearsals will begin on September 5. The Pioneer High School Dance Team will be holding four Saturday car washes in San Jose to raise money for team competitions. The locations are as follows: July 29 at the Shell Station on Almaden Expwy & Redmond, July 22 at the Chevron Station on Almaden Expwy and Redmond, and August 5 at the PHS campus, 1290 Blossom Hill Road. 2nd Annual Dog Days at Lincoln High School: Attend a fun-filled day with your best four-footed friends and family
