‘Save 7th Period’ students given boost by anonymous contributor

The men, women and children working diligently to “Save 7th Period” for local high school students received a much-needed boost last week in their fund-raising efforts from an anonymous donor. The donation came about after Campbell Union High School District Superintendent Rhonda Farber contacted the individual who had donated to Leigh High School in the past. That conversation secured a very generous offer: He or she would donate $30,000 and match any future and former contributions to the campaign.
“I’m very relieved that the offer came in. It wasn’t looking good before this happened. This is just great,” said the campaign’s coordinator, Jorey Beamesderfer as she manned the baked goods booth last Saturday in the Leigh High School parking lot. Beamesderfer also said that Farber’s efforts as well as the tone of the last school board meeting will forge a new era of communication between parents and students and the board. However, Beamesderfer went on to say, “I’m still a little anxious because we still need to raise some money to make the $200,000 total by July 30.”
The grassroots efforts have been paying off little by little with bake sales, car washes and corporate sponsorship.
As of July 21 there was still $2,000 left to raise to offset the cost-cutting slashing of seventh period which parents and students complain could eliminate music, art and science classes and the ability for students to get into good colleges.
Upcoming events to raise funds include:
