THEATER

July 13 – Aug. 4
The Sixth Annual Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival presents three plays in repertory for its 2007 season in Oak Meadow Park, Los Gatos. Opening the season is William Shakespeare’s romantic adventure story, “Pericles, Prince of Tyre”, presented in the classical storytelling style of the 1001 Arabian Nights and directed by Bruce De Les Dernier. Following will be the timeless tale of power and politics, "Julius Caesar." The season will also include the rollicking comedy “Tartuffe” by Moliere; directed by Amy Himes. The festival has a number of free events lined up this season, including a stage reading of one of next years’ productions “The Further Adventures of the Three Musketeers”; as well as our Camp Shakespeare youth conservatory class performances. DANCE

June 16 – Aug. 30
Youth Dance Company Auditions: Ladies and gentlemen with performance experience are requested to email their resume to DTIdance@sbcglobal.net and schedule an audition by Aug. 30. Accepted members are given a Performance Season, Choreography Opportunities, Cultural Events and Travel. July 5 – 26
The Almaden Summer Concert series at Almaden’s Greystone Park is in full swing! Each Thursday in July from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. gather the family and rock out to some of your favorite local bands. Wrapping up the series will be Sage, fresh from their July CD release “Funksway,” this local favorite brings their special mix of Top 40, Mowtown and Big Band sounds to Greystone on July 26.

July 12 – Sept. 6
Metro’s Music in the Park concert series presented by Dos Equis: Ten free outdoor concerts each Thursday. July 26 is Brandi Carlisle of Gos-Gos fame! Free Old-Fashioned Campfire Programs at Coyote Lake: Are you looking to get outdoors on a Saturday evening for a few hours? Well, Coyote Lake is hosting an "Old Fashioned Campfire Program" every Saturday night through the last Saturday in September. Park rangers conduct these programs at the Ranger Station from 8 - 9 p.m. Activities may include songs, night hikes, games, or crafts; while learning about park plants, wildlife, geology or history. Each program ends with "s'mores" and a story. There is a $6 vehicle entrance fee into the park. Aug. 13 – 17
The Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens will offer a week-long summer day camp for children ages 7-10 in San Jose’s Guadalupe River Park. Take a look back in time as we explore prehistoric beasts, uncover the lives of the Ohlone, Spanish and Chinese, and visit the Peralta Adobe. Take a trip inside a flower, dig up the dirt on worms, and do water tests on the Guadalupe River. The fee for camp is $200/child. Communication and Problem Solving for Couples: this seminar by Steve Grizzle, MFT, will take place at the Almaden Community Center, 6455 Camden Avenue, from 7 – 9 p.m. Grizzle is a licensed marriage and family therapist and has practiced in San Jose for 17 years. SeniorNet, computer classes for adults 50 and over will hold course registration at the Almaden Community Center located at 6445 Camden Avenue. July 25
Assistance League of San Jose, a chapter of National Assistance League is holding an informational coffee at 10 a.m. at the Almaden Country Club for those interested in joining our community service, volunteer organization. Call Arline Veteska at 268-6212 for more information.

Ongoing
Kaiser South Bay Hospice Programs is in need of volunteers. Sites are located in San Jose, Santa Clara and Redwood City. All volunteers are trained at no cost and participants are provided ongoing support and education. Volunteers go to patient and family homes providing helpful support in kind, caring ways. The village of New Almaden is having their Annual Neighborhood Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  More than 10 families on Almaden and Bertram Road will be selling household items, antiques, jewelry, tools, camping gear, and various valuables in their front yard. Go south on Almaden Expressway and turn right on Almaden Road.  Pass McKean/Mockingbird Hill Rd and continue 2.5 miles south to New Almaden. It’s the festival you can smell a mile away! Gilroy’s 29th annual Garlic Festival is hailed as the “ultimate summer food fair”, and once again promises three days of incredible food, beverages, arts and crafts and live entertainment. This event is held at Christmas Hill Park, 30 miles south of San Jose off Highway 101. Hoursa re 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. all days. Tickets are $12 general, $6 for seniors and students ages 6 – 12 years. Children under 6 are free. Advance tickets are available online at gilroygarlicfestival.com.

San Jose Grand Prix Presented at Redback Raceway: This three-day festival of fun and speed at the 3rd Annual San Jose Grand Prix has something for everyone. You can race in a historic stockcar, watch the ever-popular Drifters tear up the street, enjoy activity areas that include Pit Stop Park, Straightaway Alley and SpeedFest.
