What is your most memorable summer working experience?
(asked in front of Safeway on Almaden Expressway and Camden)

“I’ve only had two jobs in my life. [Right now] I work in a dental office and I started working there when I was 18, so that’s really all I’ve done during the summer or otherwise. We don’t do anything all that differently at the dental office during the summer.”

Atourina Rosh, 24
Insurance coordinator at
dental office
Fremont

“Snail hunting. I like to hunt snails in my garden. This morning we got 18 snails. We need them out of our garden because they eat the flowers.”

Andrea Weiner, 4 1/2

“I’m an owner, operator, and I usually enjoy my work no matter what time of year it is. I [actually] enjoy the spring the most. In spring work, you just come out of the winter and it’s green and fresh. We work up in the mountains so everything is coming out and blossoming green during the springtime.”

Bob Garner, 52
Bob’s Grading Service
owner/operator
Cambrian Park

“I think flight training was quite memorable. A lot of guys got clobbered out there flying and training. I also remember working with my dad as a kid. He was a contractor. I was about 12, 13 years old. I learned a lot, seeing what he went through. I learned to appreciate at that age what it meant to earn a buck. I learned hard work and discipline. My dad came from Poland to secure a better future for his family. Our family’s coat of arms reads: ‘God, family and honor.’”

Ed Zuchowski, 81
Retired pilot
Cambrian Park

“I worked at a Foster’s Freeze. It was my very first job and I wasn’t able to make the soft-serve ice cream cones very well. Every time it would tip over the side. It was actually pretty bad, not a great experience for me. I lasted about three weeks at that job. After that, I had some jobs I liked better. I just wasn’t very good at making the ice cream cones.”

Sue Fortune, 46
Homemaker
Almaden Valley

“Summer of 2001, I put a lot of work in on my girlfriend, Kristie. We finally got together then.”

David Mun, 25 on July 16,
Delivery van driver
Almaden Valley
