San Jose Stage Company presents “Idols of The King” at the California Theater, 345 South First Street, San Jose. Scott Bruce is Elvis Presley circa 1956 in this musical tribute to the king of rock and roll. The “King” will shake, rattle, and roll again in this rockin’ new musical, performing hits like “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “I Can’t Stop Loving You.” To prove their burning love for their idol, his diehard fans put on their blue suede shoes and head to Vegas for a concert. Award-winning Foothill music Theatre presents “Brigadoon” from July 22 – August 14 at The Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College, I-280 at El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills. Set in the Scottish Highlands, “Brigadoon” is a magical tale of time travel and the enduring power of love. 17th Annual Miller Music in the Park Concert Series. Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez, Market Street near San Fernando Street in downtown San Jose. San Jose State Event Center hosts a Gala Concert featuring Grammy Award-Winner Linda Ronstadt and Mariachi Cobre singing selections from “Canciones de mi Padre” 8 pm. Arena Green Adventures presents Storyteller John Weaver from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stories are at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Visit www.storyteller.net/tellers/jweaver to learn more about Storyteller John Weaver at his web page. Arena Green is located on Autumn Street at Santa Clara Street, across from the HP Pavilion. No reservations are required to attend and parking is free in the Arena’s surface lot on the south side of Santa Clara Street. Each child will be given one free ride on the Children’s Carousel as a special treat. Arena Green Adventures is a joint program of the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens, the Sharks Foundation, and the City of San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services.

Children’s Musical Theater’s Rising Stars report for duty at the Montgomery Theater in the 1960 Broadway classic musical comedy, “Bye Bye Birdie”. While Conrad Birdie, a teen heartthrob reminiscent of Elvis Presley, prepares to join the service, his agent stages the PR stunt of the year. Once lucky fan will win a good-bye kiss from Birdie on the nationally televised Ed Sullivan show. But kiss-winner Kim McAfee’s high school boyfriend has other ideas. “Bye Bye Birdie” features memorable songs like “Telephone Hour” and the irrepressible “Put on a Happy Face,” along super dance numbers and a large cast of energetic 10-14 year-olds. Thomas the Tank Engine will be in Felton at the Roaring Camp Railroads marking the 60th Anniversary of the Thomas & Friends storybook series and the 10th Anniversary of the Day Out With Thomas Events, this year is sure the be the best yet! This is a real train that has been converted into Thomas.

July 29 – August 7
Children’s Musical Theater ends its Mainstage season at the Montgomery Theater with the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” by musical theater greats Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. CMT updates this 1970’s classic to cast Jesus’ story in terms familiar to today’s audience, making him a charismatic coffee shop philosopher whose message and tolerance infuriates the mega-conglomerate suits. Instead of a cross, Jesus is put to death by lethal injection. Songs from the show, including “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “What’s the Buzz” and “I Don’t know How to Love Him,” are as powerful as ever.For tickets and additional information, call 288-KIDS or visit, www.cmtsj.org. San Jose Grand Prix: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. San José McEnery Convention Center & Downtown Streets. The San Jose Grand Prix event will represent so much more than a race. It will be a week long non-stop festival both on and off the track. Onsite beach volleyball, checkered flag festival area with music, interactive games, music, driver autograph sessions. Off track events include a street festival and fundraising events for Canary fund, a non-profit dedicated to early detection of cancer. Admission is $45 - $150.
