Music, puppets, Fimo at the library

Get ready for music, tales, puppets, and Fimo this month. “Flute, Sweets, and Tickletoons” starts this month’s Summer Reading Celebration programs on Saturday, July 8 at 11 a.m. followed by Eric Herman’s “Musical Zoo” on Tuesday, July 11 at 2 p.m.

Both of these wonderful programs will engage you with music and tales. A special program for grades six-12, “Fun with Fimo,” starts at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18. Participants use polymer clay to make an object to take
home. Limited to the first 30 participants to arrive. We end the month with P&T Puppets imaginative presentation of “The Three Little Pigs” on Tuesday, July 25 at 2 p.m.
Vineland’s first talent show for ages 4 to 12 years is now taking signups. Starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8 you will be the star. Read a poem, sing a song, dance, do a monologue, tell jokes, perform gymnastics—what is your talent? Pre-registration is required. Call 808-3020 or visit the branch.
Events
- Summer is a good time to join the Friends of the Vineland Branch Library. Help with preparations for our October book sale. The Friends’ next meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 12.
- Science Fiction buffs, we have a book club for you! On Saturday, July 8 at 2 p.m., we will discuss Jules Verne’s classic, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” Group meets the second Saturday of every month.
- Adult Mystery Book Discussion Group will meet on Wednesday, July 12 at 6:45 p.m. The book under discussion will be Robin Paige’s “Death at Epsom Downs.” All mystery fans are invited to attend the second Wednesday of each month.
- The Evening Book Discussion Group will meet Tuesday, July 18 at 6 p.m. In the course of one day, neurosurgeon Henry Perowne’s life changes in unexpected ways. Join the discussion of Ian McEwan’s novel, “Saturday.” They meet the third Tuesday of each month.
- Senior Book Discussion Group (50+) meets Thursday, July 20 at 10:15 a.m. to delve into Manil Suri’s “The Death of Vishnu.” They meet the fourth Thursday of each month.
- On Friday, July 14 at 4 p.m., teens ages 13-18 are invited to participate in our monthly teensReach meeting. Community service time is earned. Light refreshments are served.
- The ESL Conversation Club is held every Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. in Study Room A. This one-hour session is a great way to practice English and to make friends at the library. No pre-registration required.
- Family Storytime is held on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. in library’s children’s area.
- Chinese/English Storytime will be presented in the children’s area on Wednesday, 19 at 7 p.m.
- On Fridays, Toddler Storytime (ages 24-35 months) is 10:15 a.m. and Preschool Storytime (ages 3-5 years) is 11:15 a.m. These storytimes are held in the children’s area.
- Storytime Express, a 15-minute storytime for preschoolers, is held in the children’s area every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
Vineland Branch Library is located at 1450 Blossom Hill Road. Regular hours are: Monday 2 p.m.-7 p.m.; Tuesday-Wednesday 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. For questions, please call 808-3000 during business hours.
