Heads up for extra traffic from 13th annual
San Jose
International
Triathlon this weekend
The 13th annual San Jose International Triathlon will be held this weekend at Almaden Lake Park and while extra precautions will be taken to offset traffic snarls it would be wise to allow extra time when traveling on local roads both Saturday and Sunday.
The bike portion of the race on Saturday will be held on portions of Almaden Expressway, Coleman Avenue, Santa Teresa Blvd., Bailey Avenue, McKean Road, Camden Avenue and Redmond Avenue.
The running portion of the race will be held on Sunday and will be held at Almaden Lake Park. The swimming portion of the race will also be held, of course, at the Lake.
The weekend competition will have over 400 racers in the San Jose Mountain Bike Triathlon on Saturday and a sold out field of 1,700 on Sunday for the International event at Olympic distance of 1 mile swim - 24.8 mile bike and 6.2 mile run.
Zoot Sports is title sponsor of this event and has some unique and creative promotions to capture the spirit of age group competition. In addition, numerous amateur world championship level competitors (Holly Nybo, Pete Kain, Robert Plant, Darrin Rohr) will toe the starting line to offer the highest level competition in the country.
Large contingents of collegiate competitors travel to San Jose to celebrate summer vacation and battle it out for top team honors. This event is an annual highlight in the San Jose triathlon community and the community at large. Over 400 volunteers, many from local high schools, assist the athletes on the race course. A festive party atmosphere with great food, dozens of expo vendors and live music makes this a great weekend destination for athletes and their families.
