Festival in the Park offers roadmap to healthy living
The Santa Clara County Parks Department is sponsoring “Festival in the Park—Where Wellness Meets Fun!” on Sunday, June 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hellyer County Park in San Jose. The wellness and recreation fair is designed to inspire local residents to take charge of their health through fitness, fun and adventure.
“If we are to see significant progress in combating disease, obesity and the myriad of health risks, we all must work together to embrace lifestyle change,” said Santa Clara County Parks Director Lisa Killough. “The county of Santa Clara, along with our many event partners and participants, are committed to improving the health and fitness of our community.”
The festival will feature activities aimed at educating and inspiring people to take action and live well. Many organizations will have booths featuring health, wellness and recreation information while a large stage will serve as the focal point for performances and demonstrations. Hands-on activities will take place throughout the park and include bike rides, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, healthy cooking demonstrations and much more. A free “healthy” lunch plus complimentary fruits and vegetables will be provided.
“The goal of the wellness and recreation fair is to motivate people to become more physically active and make healthy lifestyle choices,” says Killough. “To that end, Santa Clara County Parks provides 45,000 acres of beautiful outdoor space for fitness, fun and adventure right in our own backyard.”
