Senior Troop 701 rebuilds together
Nine girls from Girl Scout Senior Troop 701 recently joined other volunteers working with the Rebuilding Together Organization to help the community. The girls worked on the Center for the Blind on Bascom Avenue in San Jose on April 24, along with more than 50 adult volunteers. The Center for the Blind was in desperate need of a new coat of exterior paint as well as major outside cleanup. The girls worked hard, cleaning, scraping, painting, and removing debris from around the building for more than seven hours. Organizers for the day raved about the girls’ work ethic and outstanding “can-do” attitude. At the end of the day, the girls were covered in paint, but said they had a great time learning painting skills and contributing to the renewed look of the Center for the Blind. They hope to participate in another Rebuilding Together day in the fall.
Troop 701 is group of 15 high school freshman from six different high schools in the area. This highly dedicated group of girls is focused on earning their Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. In addition to earning required badgework, career exploration and personal goal setting during this past year, they have also collectively contributed over 150 hours of service to the community in a variety of ways, as well as over 200 hours learning leadership skills in the community. The skills they learn this year and next will be critical in completing a Gold Award project in the community consisting of more than 50 hours of work.
