It’s finally here! Saturday, June 16 is the start of the eight-week Summer Reading Celebration program. Reach each of the five reading milestones for a cumulative total of 30 hours of reading and earn fun prizes such as a magnifying glass, painting sheets, flashing L.E.D. ball, and a book of your choice. This year, Get a Clue@your library serves children (birth through grade five) and YNK@your library serves teens (grades six through 12). During July, a separate component for adults, Summer Sleuthing@your library, invites adults to read books and win prizes through weekly drawings at all San Jose Library locations. Prizes for adults include bookstore gift certificates, restaurant, and coffee shop certificates.

ZunZun will perform June 19 at 2 p.m.

Come listen to ZunZun, a performing art group that celebrates the cultures of the Americas through music. They are multi-instrumentalists who may use 25 different instruments, many of Latin American origin, during their performance. Their performance utilizes physical comedy, audience participation, and skillful musical ability. It is a very lively show that will involve the audience on Tuesday, June 19 at 2 p.m. and is a great start to your Summer Reading Celebration.

The following Tuesday Miss Nancy, Mr. K., and friends present “Get a Clue@ Your Library.” There will be stories, magic, music, and more mysterious happenings. Come join the fun on Tuesday, June 26 at 2 p.m. for our second Summer Reading Celebration program. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Vineland Branch Library.

A favorite workshop of many students is our Cartooning and Animation class on Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m. Students will learn the art form of cartooning and comic book art. Participants will draw along with the instructor and also learn the basics of flipbook animation. Materials will be supplied at the workshop. All ability levels including beginners are welcome. This Summer Reading Celebration program is sponsored by the Friends of the Vineland Branch Library.

TEENS: the Vineland Library challenges you to read for three hours Saturday, July 14! (You will get a five-minute break each hour.) You can read whatever you like! The library will provide a large selection of reading materials from which you can choose, or you can bring your own. Snacks will be available to sustain you through the marathon and at the end of the program: pizza! You can bring a pillow or blanket to sit on. On the day of the event, July 14, check-in begins at 10:30 am, and the reading marathon kicks off at 11 a.m. sharp. Students in grades six through12 can register at the Vineland SRC desk or call the library at 808-3020. This SRC program is sponsored by the Friends of the Vineland Branch Library.
