San Jose Rep is thrilled to bring the 2007 Pulitzer® Prize Winner for Drama, Rabbit Hole, to Bay Area audiences. Showing May 12 - June 10, David Lindsay-Abaire’s 2006 Tony® Award nominated play is teeming with wit, compassion and honesty. Becca (Stacy Ross) and Howie (Andy Murray) have everything a family could want until fate shatters the balance and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Rabbit Hole chronicles the family’s bittersweet, rich and often funny journey through grief. But it is most of all a story of hope, reminding us of the power of the human spirit to heal and get back to the business of living. Rabbit Hole is directed by Kirsten Brandt, resident director at San Jose Rep. San Jose Repertory Theatre is located at 101 Paseo de San Antonio. California Theatre Center (CTC) presents “The Woman in Black,” returning to Sunnyvale by popular demand is of one of CTC’s greatest hits! A thrilling, edge-of-your seat ghost story! Performances are May 31 (Preview), June 1 (Opening) and selected dates through July 26. All performances are held at the Sunnyvale Theatre at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 East Remington Drive, just off El Camino Real in Sunnyvale. Single Tickets are priced from $18 - $25. California Theatre Center (CTC) presents “They're Playing Our Song”. This Broadway hit musical by Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch and Carol Bayer Sager is based on the real-life relationship of songwriters Hamlisch and Sager. Composer Vernon who is in need of a new lyricist, meets kooky, incurable romantic Sonia, and they dislike each other at first sight. Clearly the match is not one made in heaven! The two undergo a series of trials and overcome a number of hurdles before finding true love by the final curtain. Performances are June 7 (Preview), 8 (Opening), with various dates continuing through July 27. Matinees performances are also available. Lyceum of Santa Clara Valley, a nonprofit organization for intellectually gifted children, will hold an open house at the Van Meter Elementary School in Los Gatos. Lyceum is a parent participation program that offers intellectually gifted children after-school and weekend enrichment seminars in the Humanities, Arts, Physical and Natural Sciences. Interested parents and prospective student members will hear an overview of the program and have a chance to meet current members at the open house, which will be held from 7- 9 p.m. Van Meter is located at 16445 Los Gatos Blvd, Los Gatos. Enrollment will also be offered there. Lyceum membership is open to students in second to eighth grade who have scored in the 98th percentile or above on a standard academic test or IQ-type test. These tests include STAR, CAT/6, or OLSAT. Test scores from the past two years may be used to qualify.

The new Santa Teresa Farmers’ Market is opening at the Kaiser Permanente facility in San Jose at the corner of Santa Teresa Blvd and Camino Verde. It will run every Saturday from 9am to 1pm through November 17, so bring the whole family down for food and fun.

Escape to another world right in San José as History San José and Happy Hollow Park & Zoo partner to offer low-cost access to two of San Jose’s most significant attractions---all inside Kelley Park. On the second Tuesday of June, July and August, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., combined admission to all of Kelley Park is only $1.00 per person--- which includes Happy Hollow Park & Zoo and History Park. Summer is the time for California Theatre Center’s exciting and educational Summer Theatre Conservatory Program. Based in Sunnyvale, California Theatre Center (CTC) has offered its hands-on theatre Conservatories for ages 8 and up for over twenty years. By popular demand CTC now offers 2-week-long, half-day/ morning Junior Conservatories for ages 6-8. Registrations are currently being accepted at 245-2979. CTC’s regular Summer Conservatory is a three-week-long intensive workshop for young people ages 8 and up (must turn 8 by July 1, 2007) who are interested in developing and improving theatre skills. Youth Science Institute is taking registrations now for their Summer Science Camps! Designed for children ages 3 ½ to 14, there are over 35 camps to choose from. Camps include Bugology, Mighty Forest, Science Sleuths and Wild Wonders, just to name a few. Children enjoy the wonders of science and the natural world with hands-on projects, experiments, crafts, hikes and games. Camp fees range from $130 to $205 per week. Camps start the week of June 18th and run through August 17th at each of YSI’s Science and Nature Centers, located at Alum Rock Park in San Jose, Sanborn Park in Saratoga and Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Scholarships are available at the YSI Centers in Alum Rock and Sanborn. Classes fill up quickly, so call 356-4945 today for more information or to register.

Join the Master Gardeners of Santa Clara County and Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens for a Container Gardening Workshop using succulents. Bring your own unusual treasures to use for containers and you’ll be inspired to learn how almost anything can be used for a container garden. There will be ready made examples to get your creative juices flowing. We’ll provide the supplies and you’ll go home with your own creation. Session hours are 1:30 – 3 p.m. and will meet at the GRP & G Visitor & Education Center, 438 Coleman Avenue. Cost is $10 /members, $15 non-members. Space is limited. "Hands On Clay" classes in Almaden is accepting students for Summer 2007. Come create unique pieces that will surely impress your family and friends! The fee for these small classes (4 students) includes instructions, materials, use of tools, and kiln firings. The adult classes are held on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. in Avideh Yaghmai-Samardar's Little Falls Drive art studio and gallery. Just in time for Spring-- a new exhibit, "A Garden of Lace" at the Sunnyvale Lace Museum. The exhibit will run May 1 through July 28. The free exhibit features lace with intricate floral designs from the 1800's forward. Flowers have been a favorite subject for needlework designers for hundreds of years. This special exhibit features lace edged dresses, shawls, collars, bonnets, doilies, table cloths and bedspreads. The Lace Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and located at 552 South Murphy Avenue in Sunnyvale, CA with free parking.

Head to the Arena Green in San Jose for the National Kidney Foundation 2007 SuperStride for Life Walk. From 9 a.m. to noon walkers of all ages are invited to participate by walking as individuals or as part of a team (minimum of 10 members). Collect at least $20 in pledges. The 5K self-paced pledge Walk will feature free refreshments, entertainment, giveaways, chance to raffle prizes and special awards, and a Wellness Area where participants can get pre-screening for kidney disease and other health information at no cost. Comic Care at the Montgomery Theatre featuring Dat Phan making his only Bay Area appearance of the summer. Mr. Phan, seen with Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” and TV’s “The West Wing”, has hosted his own Comedy Central show and is perhaps best known for winning the “Last Comic Standing” competition on NBC. He will be presenting his special brand of humor to benefit the children of the Friends of Hue Foundation. This event is open to the public while tickets last.
