Professional women share insight at Girl Scout Career Night
Seven professional women were invited to share details about their respective careers with Girl Scout Service Unit 42 last Thursday night for Career night at the Santa Clara Water District. The event drew middle school and high school “cadettes” from as far away as Mountain View and East San Jose although the majority of girl scouts were from the Almaden Valley.
The speakers offered a broad range of knowledge in a variety of fields. They included a judge, a police officer, a dental hygienist, a journalist, a high school principal, a veterinarian and a physical therapist.
The women were asked to share insight into their education, salary range, and how they balance their careers with a family life.
“One of our goals in scouting is to provide opportunities for our girls to gain strong individual skills and a vision for the future,” said Cadette Troop Leader Wendy Hartman who organized the event. “Exploring exciting and diverse careers is one of the ways we can aid our girls in defining their goals.”
